What is Model United Nations?
Model UN is a competing academic team that brings an eclectic range of activities to the table including research, public speaking, writing, debate, negotiation, diplomatic statecraft, crafting solutions to global crises, and the study of current events. Representing a nation-state, a political figure, or even a fictional position of power in a simulation of a body of the United Nations (General Assembly, Security Council, etc), you have an opportunity to step into the shoes of activists and world leaders, gain exposure to international political thought, and enhance your global perspective. Students travel across the country to attend conferences, or competitions, where they get to discuss wide ranging topics from Industrial Development to the Geopolitics of Space Exploration to Latin American Prison Reform. Grown out of Harvard University, Model UN is now a popular extracurricular in middle schools, high schools, and is present at a collegiate level as well.
You do not have to have any prior experience with public speaking or knowledge of International Relations to join a team. MUN teams are filled with passionate and inquisitive student leaders that are growing out of their respective shells to make an impact on the world around them.
